Micky van de Ven Double Ends The Toffees' Run at New Home Ground

Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Spurs prolonged their unbeaten run on the road in the Premier League and delivered Everton their first defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman pounced twice from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to put their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien believed he had equalized the scores five minutes after Van de Ven's opener, directing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, failed to convert a number of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of fine saves to guarantee Tottenham went five matches on the road without defeat in the English top flight.

But the VAR intervened, instructing Craig Pawson to check the score on the pitchside monitor and the referee ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win moves Thomas Frank's team up to third in the division, five points off north London rivals and leaders the Gunners.

The Merseyside club stay in 14th position and are six points clear of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender fulfils role at both ends of the field

After a drab midweek performance in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a only two shots on target, the manager opted for Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The new arrival was unable to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the end.

Centre-back the Dutchman transformed into an attacking force to be feared.

Tottenham's first goal came from a well-worked corner routine, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the six-yard box for an unmarked the defender to head home.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as captain in the Argentine's absence - added his next goal in added time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

The Dutchman was equally outstanding in defence, partnering effectively with Kevin Danso as the duo dealt superbly with the 34 crosses sent their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Everton missing finishing touch

Everton's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the freshness may have worn off somewhat and supporters flocked to the gates after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The end in the team's unbeaten home run won't be a major worry for the manager, but their striker situation will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's two recognised strikers - had netted just one league goal between them before the weekend's match.

And they were unable to contribute to that poor record on a wet and gloomy evening on Merseyside.

Beto's form was summed up when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having room and time to readjust for a simpler shot that would have challenged Vicario.

The substitute, as well, was unable to make an impact after coming on for the starter in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a lack of chance. Most of the home side's attacks came through the winger and Ndiaye, who relentlessly delivered threatening crosses into the Tottenham penalty area.
